Review: TheFaceShop ‘The Skin’ BB Cream

My first foray into the BB cream craze:  TheSkinFood ‘The Skin’ BB cream!   I bought this on a whim at my local Korean shopping center at their gorgeous TheFaceShop boutique!  The price is $32 for 1.59 oz.  I also got a free trial sample of the same BB cream, as well as a cute little cell phone charm lip gloss.

My free lipgloss cell phone charm~!  (It has a nice scent too)

I was originally going to try the ‘Quick and Clean’ BB Cream, but they were out of stock.  Luckily my acne has been very minimal anyway and my only concerns are ruddiness, broken capillaries, and dryness.

What it claims:  Smart 3-in-1 cream nourishes, protects, and corrects in just one easy application.  Formulated with Marjoram and Acti-Firm Complex to sooth irritated skin, this 3-in-1 moisturizer offers SPF 20 protection, corrects complexion with natural coverage and replenishes skin with nutrients.

Directions:  Use after your usual skincare routine.  Smooth over the face and tap in with fingers

Swatch:  (My hands look SO dry here)

Look how pale the color is!

Blended in:

After blending, it looks more natural.

This BB cream has a nice smell to it.  My skin isn’t particularly sensitive so I don’t mind.  I’m honestly attracted to nice smells in skincare because non-scented products smell like chemicals to me.

It nicely covers up redness, but only after I layer a thin second coat over it.  To apply it, I warm it up between my fingers first, so it applies smoothly.  I do look a little paler than normal when I first put it on, but after a few minutes it blends nicely with my light skin.  I can understand why the coloring is so pale, because Korean celebrities and models have pale, porcelain skin.  This really does make your skin look very light and I can see how this BB cream can achieve that look!

When I’m looking a little too pale (for work or shopping), I dust on a little bit of peachy bronzer on my cheeks.  I wouldn’t use this for a night out on the town as the coverage doesn’t last as long as I’d like.  The finish is natural and airy, but it doesn’t help my dark circles.  I’ve only used this for a week or so, but I’m hoping this will soothe and correct my ruddiness.  Here’s to hoping! :)

Pros:

  • Includes SPF 20
  • Natural, luminous finish
  • Light pleasing scent
  • Coverage is light but buildable
  • Comes with a pump so there’s less chance of contamination
  • Less is more:  a pea sized amount is enough
  • Cost per use is acceptible at $32 for 1.59 oz

Cons:

  • Only one shade, suitable for light skintones only!
  • Makes you a little too light if you put on too much
  • Doesn’t really cover my dark circles.  It lightens, but doesn’t cover it completely
  • The scent could be annoying to some, or potentially irritating to sensitive skin
  • The coverage doesn’t last as long as I’d like, especially on hot days

Would I buy again?  Probably.  I like the natural finish; it’s perfect for those days where you don’t want to go all-out on makeup, but just want to look fresh!
