Its Christmas time! Now that Thanksgiving has passed it seems that Christmas songs and commercials are on 24/7!
I’ve finally put up my tree and made a few updates to my regular decor.
I changed out my old lampshades ($10/each, on clearance from Urban Outfitters) with new ones from Target! ($6something/each, on clearance) I like how it adds a bit more drama to the space.
The guest bathroom has been updated with one of my favorite Hawaii photos of Justin and I:
Also I finally hung up the acrylic paintings I made over the bed!
(Ikea furniture, Ikea rug, Nate Berkus for HSN lamps, Target bedding, DIY paintings.)
About this project, I had a coupon for “buy one canvas, get one for 1 cent” from Michaels, bought a handfull of acrylic paints for ~$2 each and a small brush set for $7. I mixed colors on a paper plate with some water. DIY art is fun, fulfilling and very economical!
Now onto my little bits of Christmas decor… I moved a few baubles onto the mantle for some bling. My thrifted $15 hexagonal mirror hasn’t been put up yet but I’m hoping to work on that with Justin by the end of the year.
(The antler was a $15 flea market find, the gold brass ball was a $1 find from Goodwill, the mercury glass candle holder was $0.65 from Marshalls last year, and the brass star candle holder was $0.50 from a yard sale.)
A white wreath from last year’s Target holiday season (I think it was $20something):
My tree has a white and green theme! I bought everything last year during after Christmas sales from Walmart, Michaels and Target for at least 50% off retail.
I wanted to do a modern and funky color scheme instead of something traditional. My main source of inspiration was this blog post by the Decor Demon! The most important thing I got from it was that holiday decor doesn’t have to be expensive or stuffy.
I finished assembling the tree and decorating in a couple hours and only a single glass ornament was broken in the process 😛
Happy Holidays to you and your loved ones!
